Music Review – “How To Save A Life”
February 23, 2022
“How to Save a Life” by The Fray was released in 2005. The song is about a real experience that happened to the main singer of the band, Isaac Slade. He volunteered to work with an organization that deals with troubled teens. Slade got paired up with one teen who was not only a drug addict, but also self harmed. Isaac was inspired to write this song because of this person’s struggles.
I first heard this song while watching the TV show “Grey’s Anatomy.” The show is about doctors saving lives, so it’s fitting that they included that particular song. The song starts off with a piano; then more instruments join in, along with the vocalist.
My favorite lyric of the song is probably the beginning of the chorus where Slade sings, “Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend.” This references a specific scene where the troubled teen told Isaac about losing his best friend to drugs.
Overall, I would suggest listening to “How to Save a Life” because it deals with a very powerful message. If you like “Grey’s Anatomy,” like I do, and if you need new song recommendations, I recommend checking it out.
I give this song 5 stars.
