The Perrigo Rubber Duck Race is an annual event hosted by the Perrigo family to raise money for charity. This wholesome family event was held on a beautiful holiday weekend, starting at 10:00 AM on  Monday, May 29th, and raised $1550 for the Vermont Nongame Wildlife Fund. The duck race was live-streamed on Facebook from its location on Hunt Mill Road in Ryegate, VT. Rubber ducks were sold for five dollars each and they sold over three hundred rubber ducks. First, second, and third-place winners won prizes and even the last-place participant received a free rubber duck for next year’s race.  The first-place winner, Kim Powers, received a duck quilt. Second-place winners, Ryan & Andrea Dennis, were presented with a gallon of maple syrup.  Third-place winner, Hillarie Scott, took home a Cabot cheese basket.

The Perrigo rubber duck race was started by Lance Perrigo and his grandmother, Margret Hale, in 2021 just as something fun for the family to do over the Memorial Day weekend. The rubber duck race takes several weeks of planning and prepping with the whole family chipping in to help with marking and counting all the rubber ducks. The ducks start at a homemade bridge constructed by the family and then the rubber ducks race to the end of the course, a chosen spot partway down the brook. The ducks are collected at the end and then are sorted and the winners are later announced. This has been a family tradition for the past three years and they hope to continue this event for years to come.
