The first day of October marks many things for people, leaves changing colors, pumpkin carving, apple picking, and other fall activities, but for some people it marks early mornings up high in a tree waiting for a whitetail to cross their path. This past Sunday, Vermont archery season began and the season will continue to be open until December 15th with the exception of a two week delay for Vermont’s rifle season. Hunters are able to harvest three does and one legal buck but if you take you legal buck, you are not able to go out for the rifle season in November. Last year, archers harvested 5,877 deer during the archery season. On average, 4,781 Vermont deer are harvested by bow each year. Avid bow hunter Luke Peters is excited to be back in a tree. He states, ” [I] Love being 20 feet in a tree for the first time after a long year and seeing that first deer of the year.”
