On October 7th 2023, the Vermont VPA state championship was held on Lake Champlain. The Harwood highlanders came away with the victory and the new state record weighing in at 24.99 pounds. Two Blue Mountain boats entered the tournament. They each had a strong showing with the JV boat coming in at 8th place out of 16 teams and the Varsity boat coming in at 6th place out of 21 teams. JV anglers, Will Emerson and Jacob Roberts reeled in 5 fish weighing in at 13.10 pounds. Will Emerson caught a small mouth lunker that tipped the scales at 3.99 pounds. Varsity Anglers Brody Kingsbury and Kason Blood brought in a full bag (six fish) of all smallmouth. 15.59 pounds placed them 6th for the 2023 State tournament. 2.5 inches of rain came down make the fishing conditions challenging but the Bucks persevered to make it a great day out on the water.
