The Vermont Principles Association has made a rule change in regarding how foul shots are awarded. Previously, after seven fouls in a half, the opposing team would go to the foul line for a free throw, if they made it, then they get to shoot another one and then the other team would take possession. Once a team reached ten fouls, the opposing team would then be in the double bonus which means they get two shots guaranteed. After the half, the fouls would reset. According to the Vermont Principles Association, the new rule states, high school basketball teams will shoot two free throws for common fouls when in the “bonus.” This rule eliminates the one-and-one scenario and sets new foul limits each quarter for awarding the bonus free throw. Angeline Bogie, IAABO official, believes that this new rule could change the game due to the fact that many teams used one-and-one to their advantage both offensively and defensively. Although she does think this will make the game flow better and will shorten the time of the games. Angeline also added that this could take some coaching out of the game with the respect that you always had a foul to give when now you are automatically getting two shots. This new rule could play a big role in changing high school basketball drastically.
