Felicity Sulham is a senior at Blue Mountain who has decided to do her senior project about speech pathology. Sulham has chosen to do this senior project as she is planning for this career in the future. This semester, Sulham is shadowing a speech-language pathologist at Newbury Elementary. She is enjoying her time there and is excited to pursue a career in speech-language. Sulham is using this time to shadow to find the best ways to teach and find good resources. She is required to have 60-plus hours in her chosen field for the senior capstone project.
A senior capstone project is a requirement for all seniors to graduate. Seniors need to create a project that allows them to have an understanding of the career they are planning on doing after they graduate. Seniors have a choice to make their projects more career-oriented or more about something they are passionate about. Sulham wants to continue her education in speech-language pathology in college. Sulham struggled with a speech impediment when she was in elementary school and knows the receiving side of speech therapy. Sulham does not want kids to struggle with speech impediments as she did and is driven to help others. She has noticed a difference in speech therapy from when she was younger. Because she has a history with speech therapy she has an idea about what techniques she wants to use in the future. She understands that each kid learns differently, so Sulham wants to focus on the best techniques for each learner. Sulham stated, “Doing this shadowing has helped me learn how to approach things with kids and make it fun!”.
