Members of Blue Mountain’s Gender and Sexuality Alliance took a field trip to Teen Lit Mob at U-32 in East Montpelier. Teen Lit Mob is the only literary festival in Vermont, designed for teens to celebrate and explore reading and writing. The GSA went to see Malinda Lo’s discussion about her new book, Last Night at the Telegraph Club, the topic of their book discussion to be held on April 16th. This field trip helped members to get a better idea about Malinda Lo, Last Night at the Telegraph Club, and how to run a successful book discussion.
The students were able to participate in workshops they were interested in, and build new skills. Workshops covered topics like world building, horror stories, and how to write effective sensory details. This trip allowed attendees to explore reading and writing with others who share their interests and passions. Participants got many free books that they were then able to trade with others. GSA member Isabel Hand says that “Teen lit mob was fascinating; it was crazy to see so many people come together to experience and celebrate reading and writing.” Overall the students enjoyed the trip and are planning on going again next year.
