WELLS RIVER- On Tuesday the Blue Mountain varsity softball team started their season with a 16-4 win against BFA Fairfax. The last time these two teams met was in 2023 with the Bucks defeating BFA Fairfax 16-2. Blue Mountain started the 2024 season with a 4-0 first inning lead holding BFA to just three at-bats. In the second inning, the Bucks scored seven runs advancing to an 11-0 lead with BMU freshman Addison Murray starting by hitting a two-run home run. In the third inning, BMU sophomore Kaylee Hamlett once again held BFA to three batters not allowing them any runners on base. After three innings of play the Bucks enjoyed a 12-0 lead. In the fourth inning, BFA scored four runs while Blue Mountain scored three runs making the score 15-4. Both teams were held scoreless in the 5th inning. In the sixth inning, BFA scored no runs, not advancing any runners while Blue Mountain scored one run. This gave BMU a 12 run advantage which activates the mercy rule in softball.
Many BMU players played a big part in the win. Sophomore Kaylee Hamlett kept BFA to four runs the whole game with the help of her infield. Freshman Addison Murray had much to say about the season ahead, “I am so happy to be starting the season off with a win, and I can not wait to see how we grow as a team throughout the rest of the season. This is just one win out of many more to come.”
The Bucks face Randolph on Wednesday, April 17 at 4:30 at home.
