WELLS RIVER, VT — On Saturday, September 14, the Blue Mountain Bucks hosted the Woodsville Engineers, their rivals from across the river for the highly anticipated homecoming game, resulting in a 15-0 loss for the Bucks.
In the first half, the Engineers started the game with an early goal, blowing past the Bucks’ defense in the first few minutes. After a rough start both defensively and offensively for the Bucks, they attempted to push the ball up the field in hopes of scoring. However, the Engineers’ defense kept the Bucks at bay while moving the ball forward. By the end of the half, the Engineers took a commanding lead of 8-0.
Blue Mountain junior Evan Farquharson said, “It was a tough game against a strong team. We worked as a team, communicating to the best of our abilities in hopes of scoring a goal.”
Both teams returned to the field for the second half, with the Engineers maintaining the pressure on the Bucks; the Engineers scored seven additional goals in the second half. The game ended with the Engineers on top 15-0.
“ We gave it our all, but we had to build a new team and pull kids up from 8th grade. We need to use this loss as motivation to improve ourselves,” commented BMU junior Evan Farquharson.
The Bucks (0-3) plan to face off against BFA-Fairfax (2-1) on September 20 at 4:30 p.m. at the Ron Brown Athletic Field.
