Wells River, VT- On Monday September 9, students celebrated Spirit Week leading up to the homecoming dance. Student council puts on Spirit Weeks before big events like homecoming, prom, or Halloween to get the student body excited for the event.
For this past Spirit Week, each day was matched with a corresponding theme. Students dressed accordingly: Monday – Adam Sandler; Tuesday – Rhyme Without Reason; Wednesday – Wild West; Thursday – Tacky Tourist, Friday – BMU Day. Student Council members decided on these themes.
Madalyn Houghton, Student Council President, explains “The goal of Spirit Week is to try to get people excited” for homecoming. She continues: “We just tried to make people have a little bit of fun… to get them involved with the school and [with] each other.”
Spirit Week was a big hit this year with many students partaking in the silly themes. “With Spirit Week you can involve yourself a little bit more in the school and the community without having the responsibility of being a part of the student council, NHS, band, or chorus.”
Spirit Week came to an end with the theme Spirit Day, a day where students and staff wore BMU merch to show off their school spirit.
