On September 13th, 2024 Blue Mountain Union (BMU) hosted a homecoming dance for Woodsville High School (WHS) and BMU students. This year, organizing the homecoming dance was BMU’s responsibility, which was assigned to the student council.
Traditionally, homecoming falls a few weeks after school, so planning must begin in the summer. According to student council advisor, Ms. K, planning for homecoming is difficult because—typically—students can’t meet during vacation. Yet, there’s several of responsibilities to fulfill. The early stages of organizing include: finding a DJ; purchasing food and drinks; buying decorations; finding chaperones; and creating a voting process for the queen and king of the homecoming dance.
However, once school is in session, the student council must prepare the dance. Vice president of student council, Kennedy Perrigo, explains “…the last 24 hours before the dance [is very stressful] because that’s when we have to lock in, decorate the gym, and make sure everything’s all set.”
Everyone’s hard work paid off; the student council successfully planned and executed a memorable homecoming. When asked how things went, Ms. K reflects, “…Really well!” We hope that next year the dance will run just as smoothly at WHS.
