Homecoming as we know it is a relatively new event here at Blue Mountain; it has only happened for the past 13 years.
Many of the staff went to high school at BMU, and they had a lot to share about its origins which began in 2011. According to Mr.Emerson, local businesses asked Woodsville and BMU students to make scarecrows to place outside their shops. This fall activity sparked an idea: a combined BMU and Woodsville Homecoming soccer game. Mr. Powers added that in order to make this a reality, BMU’s principal and Woodsville’s principal sat down and had a meeting about how it was going to play out.
In 2016, Woodsville and BMU decided to add a homecoming dance for grades 9 through 12. In recent years, BMU added a Spirit Week to energize the students.
Currently, each year, homecoming alternates between the BMU and Woodsville buildings.
