A mock election took place at BMU for students in the 9th-12th grades in which they could vote for President, Vice President, Vermont Senator, Representative to Congress, and Governor from Bucks Block through lunch. Students could vote for those running, or write in a person who is 35 or older. The winners of the mock election are Donald Trump as President (40 votes), JD Vance as Vice President, Bernie Sanders as Vermont Senator (53 votes), Becca Balint as Representative to Congress (32 votes), and Phil Scott as Governor (61 votes). Social Studies teacher Neil Emerson explains that a mock election “Gives students experience voting like they will be doing soon.” The mock election was run by the Elections class providing experience for them as well as the students voting. 71% of the students voted at 102 votes, but some students stayed out of it preferring to not vote.
