Wells River VT – On Friday, December 13, 2024, the Blue Mountain Bucks welcomed The Sharon Academy (TSA) Phoenixes into Dr. Harry M. Rowe Gymnasium for the season opener. Blue Mountain Union won the game with a final score of 77-29.
The Bucks started the first quarter off slow on defense allowing TSA to score 10 points. This left the score at 18-10 with the Bucks in the lead. In the second quarter, the Bucks chained down the Phoenix to two points, securing the lead 41-12 going into the second half. In the second half of the game, the Bucks continued their momentum, scoring 36 more points for a final score of 77. In the fourth quarter, the Phoenix turned up the heat, scoring 11 more points. When asked about the game, the Buck’s coach, Chris Cook, shared that it was “a slow start… the boys turned on the defensive intensity in the second and third quarter.” He reinforces, “We can’t have slow starts going forward against some of the competition we have coming up.
Senior Point Guard Kason Blood started the season off strong, leading the Bucks in the scoring column with 21 points and five steals. He was followed by Junior Jamal Saibou and Sophomore Conner Dailey with 19 and nine points respectively. Dailey is also credited with a team high, nine rebounds on the night. With the Buck’s bench seeing a great deal of playing time, eleven different players put points in the Buck’s column. TSA’s Sophomore Noah Malloy led the Phoenixes with an impressive four three-point shots for a total of 12 points followed by Junior Gabe Malloy and Freshman Will DeCapua-Whitman with nine and four respectively.
The Bucks will face the Rivendell Academy Raptors on Monday evening December 16.
