Here at BMU, many student-athletes have played sports for their entire academic careers. In fact, approximately 50% of our high school student body plays a sanctioned high school sport, many of whom are multi-sport athletes. As a small and connected community, most of our athletes have played on the same team since they were toddlers, drawing them closer to their peers, both on and off the field.
This question-and-answer interview was conducted with Brody Scott (16) and Conner Dailey (16), who have played sports together for 10 years, to understand how this has impacted their friendship.
Conner Dailey as a younger player
Kendall: What sport or sports have you two played together?
Dailey: We have played basketball and baseball together, and we played soccer together in the early elementary years.
Scott: So, we have played baseball and basketball with each other.

Kendall: How has playing sports together for so long changed the way you have played as a team?
Dailey: Playing together has changed the way I play as a team because whenever we need to partner up, I always have a partner, and if anything doesn’t go our way, we will both be there to support each other.
Scott: Our team has great chemistry, and we know each other very well. This has helped us play very well as a team since we are so close.

Kendall: Have sports drawn you closer in your friendship?
Dailey: Yes, I feel sports have drawn us closer because I feel that [it] started our whole friendship in the beginning. We always played every sport together at the beginning and even now we play two sports together, which has made us closer friends.
Scott: Yes, our friendship started because of sports, and we are very close because of this. There was never a time that I can remember when he wasn’t my throwing partner in baseball or my shooting buddy in basketball.
Kendall: What have you learned about teamwork while working with the same athletes over the years?
Dailey: Teamwork is a huge factor in any success in sports; if you don’t have a good relationship with someone, you’re not going to be in a good mood during any games.
Scott: I have learned that teamwork isn’t always black and white, and it is sometimes tough to be the teammate to pick someone up after a mistake, but it has made us closer and better as a team.
Brody Scott and Conner Dailey, after winning the D-IV Baseball State Championship
Kendall: Tell me about your most successful season that you played together and your experiences from that.
Dailey: The most successful season that we played together was last year’s baseball team. We won the state championship, and Brody started the game. Even though I sat the bench the whole time, we were both very positive about the win.
Scott: Our most successful season was probably our state championship last year. That was one of the best sports experiences of my life, and it was so much fun to have him along for the ride.
Sports are a great way to connect with people in your school and community. These students have played sports together for ten years, and it is clear from this interview that both Dailey and Scott were impacted by sports, and it has helped create their lifelong friendship.
