Wells River, VT- On Monday, September 22, the Bucks varsity boys soccer team hosted Paine Mountain for their first meeting of the 2025 soccer season. Blue Mountain played well but ultimately fell short 0-3. The Bucks struggled to keep possession and move up the field as much as they would like. Despite these struggles, BMU pushed forward with some intense defense, creating tough shots for Paine Mountain. Paine Mountain broke the tie in the 18th minute, which would be the only goal of the half. Blue Mountain coach Michael Scott pointed out the boys’ improvement. “They matched up, staying with men. Number two, the Midfield moved with us up and down the field really well, so it left a lot of non-open space like we had in the Cal-United game.”

In the second half, Paine Mountain came out hot, scoring in the first three minutes, making the game 2-0. The teams would go back and forth until Paine Mountain scored its last goal in the 60th minute. The Bucks had some chances to score in the later parts of the game, but could never connect with the back of the net. The boys kept their heads high as they played a tough team, and senior Captain Evan Farquharson said, “The game was really good. We were going in there expecting to have a really tough game against Paine Mountain. I think we held them to our own… more than any team in Vermont was expecting us to”.
The Bucks look to keep moving forward on Saturday as they head to BFA and take on the Bullets.
