WELLS RIVER- On Saturday, the 17-3 Bucks welcomed the 13-7 Williamstown Blue Devils to the Dr. Harry M. Rowe Gymnasium for a quarter-final contest in the VPA Div IV Tournament.  The Bucks would come out on top 66-34, and earn a trip to the Barre Auditorium. The two teams would be playing each other for the 3rd time, with the Bucks winning both regular-season games, the Blue Devils came out looking for some post-season revenge. Early in the first quarter, the energy was high as both teams came out playing great defense until the Bucks managed to get Paige Dwinell in foul trouble early. The Bucks jumped on the opportunity expanding their lead to 19-11 after the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Blue Devils found themselves in serious foul trouble as they sent the Bucks to the charity stripe for 13 shots.  The Bucks converted 10 of those 13 foul shots, putting them ahead 35-19 at the half. The Bucks were led by Jordan Alley and Kyra Nelson who scored 23 points each.   Alley had this to say about her team’s mentality, “I think that we went out knowing that it was going to be, difficult to beat the same team three times. Knowing that they were going to come out aggressive, I think we did well staying calm and keeping our composure, which is something we’ve been trying to focus on. It was a well-fought battle between both teams, and I am extremely proud of everyone for giving 110% and never giving up.”

The Blue Devils were led by Destiny Campbell who had 15 points and went 1-4 from the charity stripe. The Blue Devils came out aggressive in the second half coming away with multiple steals and defensive stops to start the half. Despite Williamstown’s evert the Bucks held on to their lead and never looked back outscoring the Blue Devils 14-6 in the 3rd frame. The Bucks continued racking up points until with under 2 mins to go the newly pulled-up varsity players went in to secure the win and they did just that.

The Lady Bucks will advance to the Barre Auditorium to take on 17-5 Leland & Gray Wednesday, March 1st at 6:30 pm.
