Blue Mountain Union’s cross-country team competed at Lyndon Institute’s race on Wednesday, September 27th. This race included high school runners who ran a 5k (3.1 miles) and middle schoolers who ran a 2.5k (1.5 miles). Some schools rode together as BMU combined buses with Oxbow. Middle school girls Madison Frigon and Cameron Perkins both had strong performances. Perkins placed 17th, finishing with a time of 16:19 her personal record. Frigon unfortunately didn’t have her time recorded, but she came in a little before Perkins.
Blue Mountain High School boys ran immediately after, with Zhijie Zhong beating his personal record of 27:46, placing 25th. Junior Nyx Desrochers’ time was 37:17, placing her 20th. Alexandria DeForge also raced; she broke her personal record and placed 14th at 33:05, placing ahead of the rest of the team.
Blue Mountain Union’s cross-country runners gave their all, with only one runner not competing, Lily-Ann Morgan due to being injured. “Cross country is a team sport no matter what team you are on,” says runner, Morgan. Running is hard; it’s every other sport’s punishment, but this team worked hard to push each other to the very end. Blue Mountain’s next race is on October 11th at St. Johnsbury Academy.
