On Saturday, October 28th, Blue Mountian Union’s cross-country high school team competed at Thetford Academy for the state championship. This race included high schoolers running a 5k (3.1 miles). States started with the girls’ Division 3 race, with BMU runners Lily-Ann Morgan, Alexandria DeForge, and Nyx Desrochers. Morgan placed 71st with a time of 35:16, happy with her time, saying “It was too hot.” Deforge placed 57th and hit a time of 31:07, this was her first year and she is one of the fastest runners on the team. Desrochers placed 72nd with a time of 35:16. “The end of the season is always hard because you always miss it, but when you are actually in the season, sometimes you wonder why you play this sport,” Desrochers said. Following the girl’s race, the boy’s Division 3 race competed with BMU runner Zhijie Zhong placing 77th with a time of 29:59. Zhong has been doing this for four years and this is his first year competing in high school. Zhong is determined next year to hit under 25 minutes. Cross-country can push you to your limit, but most people don’t give up. Blue Mountain’s Cross Country will start back up next year in August. Please contact Todd Powers or Jennie Lund if you are interested in joining the team.

Nyx Desrochers, BNN Staff
Nyx is a junior in high school, and this is her first year at BNN. She runs with the varsity cross country, but that clearly wasn’t nearly enough for her as she writes songs and sings music. She has barely been playing chess for a year and already she has won two tournaments. The past week before school, Nyx volunteered at a camp for girls who lost a parent, trying to help those in need. Nyx is also studying to become a cosmetologist at River Bend, but the best thing about her is she loves spending time learning new things.
