On October 23rd and 24th, the youth hunters of Vermont hit the woods of the Green Mountain state with family and friends. To be able to participate in Youth Weekend in Vermont, you must be 15 years old or younger and have completed a hunter education course; you also must have an adult over the age of 18 with a valid hunting license with you. 15 year old youth hunter Luke Peters described his youth hunting experience with us: “I would say [Youth Weekend] helped me get into hunting a lot.”  He enjoyed “being able to go with my father and shoot some of my first deer.” Deer hunting is a tradition that goes very far back for a lot of families in Vermont. 15 year old Owen Murry said, “I’ve been doing Youth Weekend with my dad for six years and it’s been a blast.” This year, the heaviest youth deer that was checked in at Upper Valley Grill came from 14 year old Kason Blood with a 139 pound, 4 point buck.  Blood stated, “I love Youth Weekend because you can shoot whatever deer you want which makes for a good experience and helps you move forward in hunting.”
