For many in the North County, hunting season is more than just a hobby. It is a time for generations to join together and create memories that last a lifetime. Nick Kendall, an avid hunter since he was a youngster, spends a week every year hunting with his friends and their children in Pittsburgh, New Hampshire. While every year he doesn’t always get a deer, this year was extra special, as he was able to share the experience of getting a buck with his family and friends.
Nick and his friends now have kids around the same age, and hunting has become a generational experience for them. Kendall explained, “When I saw the 6-point buck in Pittsburgh, and knew that I had all the boys with me, I thought what a great experience it would be to be a part of. It was the first time that I had gotten a buck with all of my family and friends, and it was an experience I will never forget,” says Kendall.

Like many hunters in Vermont, Kendall has always loved being in the outdoors, and as a kid, he used to spend days outside just exploring nature and wildlife. Nick shares, “I received my hunting license at 7 years old. While my dad was never very into hunting, my grandfather had a passion for being in the woods, and he was the first person to take me out hunting as a child.”
Kendall has passed on his love of the outdoors to his 10-year-old son Elliott, and hunting with him is one of his favorite things. Elliott explains, “For me, hunting is about spending time with my dad. If it wasn’t for my dad, I wouldn’t be hunting. He was the first person to introduce me to hunting, and I love spending time enjoying the outdoors with him.”
Hunting shows the outdoors in a way that many individuals don’t see. Kendall explains, “It’s a way to connect with the world around you in a way that non-hunters don’t understand.” Hunting has always been a meaningful experience for Nick, and his goal “is to pass on my appreciation for wildlife and the outdoors, and to show younger generations the world around us,” says Kendall.
