BARRE- Last night in Girls Varsity Basketball, the Blue Mountain Bucks checked in to the Barre Auditorium, but ultimately lost 50-30 to the Golden Horde. The first quarter was full of action for both teams with a 13-16 score in favor of West Rutland. Six of those points coming from beyond the arc out of the hot hand of freshman guard, Peyton Guay. In the second quarter, the Golden Horde was able to extend their lead to 11 points, making the score 17-28 going into halftime. In the second half, West Rutland’s full-court pressure was a tough obstacle for BMU and it was able to hold the Bucks to a 7 point quarter, while West Rutland had 12 points, making the score 40-24 going into the fourth quarter. West Rutland was able to put it away in the fourth, adding 10 more points and holding the Bucks to 6 points, making the final score 50-30. Sophomore Jordan Alley led the Bucks by contributing 13 points, while Freshman Kyra Nelson had 7 points. For the Golden Horde, Freshman Peyton Guay put on an impressive 3 point clinic, hitting 4 threes and hanging 23 points, leading the West Rutland girls to victory. Arianna Combs put up 8 points for the Golden Horde. West Rutland and Proctor are now set for a championship shootout on Saturday at high-noon at the Barre Auditorium.
