BMU’s Cross Country team is determined to break the female cross country school record of 26 minutes this fall. BMU’s boys cross country 5K record is 18:27. In this high school sport, students compete in a 5K (3.1 miles) race, or a one point five mile to two mile race for middle school. Nyx Desrochers, a BMU junior, has been on BMU’s cross country team for four years. She enjoys competing with the team, and together they plan to break BMU’s female 5K record of 26 minutes. Desrochers’ current record is 28.27 minutes. According to Desrochers, “Cross country is one the most supportive teams because it’s personal and everyone knows what you’re going through.” BMU’s cross country team currently has seven members: four high school females, one high school male, and two middle school females. BMU’s cross country coach is Jennie Lund. Although this is her first year coaching at BMU, she explains that she’s “been running my entire life,”  She also has coached cross country in Swanton for two years. Lund is a constant encourager who understands that cross country is a lifelong sport. Lund states, “Cross country is about beating your own personal time. Yes, you want to win; who doesn’t want to win? But, as long as they continue improving that means what we’re doing is working. I love seeing them come across the finish line – tired but really happy with themselves.” The next meet for the Bucks is October 7th at Lamoille.
