WELLS RIVER- Emilie Knisley, BMU’s middle and high school Principal, has been awarded a Fulbright Leaders for Global Schools Program scholarship. The Fulbright Program, established in 1946, is an academic cultural exchange program that provides new perspectives and mutual understanding. There are two different cohorts in this year’s educational leaders Fulbright program; one is going to Germany, and the other one to Finland. Knisley and 10 others depart for Finland on January 21, 2024, for two weeks. Knisley is, “excited for the opportunity to travel to Finland to exchange educational ideas on behalf of the US Department of State and the Fulbright Foundation.” The purpose of this trip is to share educational ideas on how education works in the United States and in Finland. Knisley will be meeting with teachers and students in school settings, as well as with government officials at the U.S. Embassy in Finland, where she will do some diplomatic work. Knisley has had some initial meetings with cohorts from Los Angeles, Rhode Island, New York, and the Midwest. Since the State Department plans and funds this trip, Knisley has not been given a lot of information ahead of time but knows that it will be an exciting adventure. Knisley has previously attended a Fulbright program in Japan.
